Public events must be closely monitored for safety

The Memorial Day weekend is a holiday weekend that is associated with outdoor events. The all-terrain vehicle event at Ohio’s Powerline Park is one of the largest events at the facility. Hundreds of people flock to the 1,000-acre park to enjoy the off-road event. This year, the event turned fatal when a 46-year-old man from a Pennsylvania was killed.

The man was struck by an ATV and knocked beneath a trailer. The trailer collapsed on the man. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, the man was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident.

Two people were arrested in connection with the man’s death. They were charged with vehicular homicide and could face additional charges. Those criminal charges aren’t likely going to do much to ease the pain the deceased man’s family is experiencing. If the criminal charges do result in a conviction, it might bring some closure to the family.

This man’s death highlights how important it is for any public event hosts or sponsors to ensure that the event is safe for the people who are coming. When proper safety measures aren’t taken, there is a chance that participants and spectators will be injured or killed in a tragic accident.

If you lost a loved one in a fatal accident that was caused because someone was negligent or reckless, you might choose to seek compensation for your loved one’s death. Understanding the elements of a wrongful death lawsuit can help you to ensure that you have everything in order when it is time for you file your claim.
