A multi-vehicle accident in southwest Ohio has caused two serious injuries and the closure of Interstate 71 for the better part of an hour. The police report states that the accident happened at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 12.

As best as the police could determine from their investigation, the collision occurred when a 49-year-old man from South Lebanon was driving on the I-71 in the northbound lanes. As his 2015 Corvette was passing through Deerfield Township, a small town to the northeast of Cincinnati, he appears to have lost control of the vehicle by the Fields Ertel exit.

At that moment, a 47-year-old man from Lebanon who was driving a pickup truck had stopped at the side of the road to inspect the load in the bed. The Corvette ran into both the man and his truck. The force of the impact threw the Lebanon man into traffic, where he was struck once again by a third vehicle and run over. He was transported to Bethesda North Hospital first, then taken to UC Medical Center for treatment. His injuries were described as life-threatening. The driver of the Corvette was also injured and had to be taken to Miami Valley Hospital by air. I-71 northbound was closed for approximately 45 minutes as the emergency response personnel cleared the scene of the accident.
