A police sergeant in Pataskala said that alcohol or drug use was not suspected in the head-on collision that killed three people on Ohio 16 near Taylor Road in Licking County. However, the investigation remains open as investigators search for the reason why a westbound Toyota Camry crossed the highway's center line and hit a Dodge Grand Caravan.
An accident in Ohio's Jackson County claimed the life of an Athens man, 21, when his pickup hit a semi on March 12 in the early morning hours. The tractor-trailer driver, who left the scene of the accident, was found in West Virginia and extradited back to Ohio.
A 24-year-old woman admitted to police that she was the driver in a fatal accident that took place during July 2014. According to authorities, the accident occurred after a vehicle driving on Interstate 70 crossed three lanes of traffic and hit a motorcycle. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound when the crash took place, and the victim was a 58-year-old woman. Authorities say that an anonymous tip led gave them the lead that eventually led to a confession.
On Jan. 6, one person was killed and three others were injured in a car accident in Wayne County. The accident happened around 5:25 p.m.
On Dec. 28, a 37-year-old Bainbridge man, who was driving a Jeep Liberty while drunk, was traveling on U.S. 422 in Olon allegedly going east in the westbound lanes. At approximately 12:45 a.m., he hit a Saturn Vue head-on, according to police.
A multi-vehicle accident in southwest Ohio has caused two serious injuries and the closure of Interstate 71 for the better part of an hour. The police report states that the accident happened at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 12.
According to authorities, a 35-year-old Mentor man died in a Route 44 collision around 9 a.m. on Dec. 1. Officials declared he 35-year-old man dead at the scene of the wreck. Reportedly, the other driver involved in the two-vehicle crash suffered minor injuries.
Two people were killed and a third person was injured in a collision in Youngstown in the early hours of Nov. 27. Police only found one vehicle at the scene. However, they were told by witnesses that the car had collided with a semi-truck hauling a trailer. Police are still searching for the driver of the truck.
Ohio authorities reported recently on an accident in Lorain involving a U.S. postal truck that sent two people to the hospital on Nov. 13. The collision took place on the Lofton Henderson Memorial Bridge when the 24-year-old man driving the postal truck lost control and struck a 1996 Buick Riviera head-on. There were no other people involved in the accident.
A Nov. 7 accident involving two SUVs and a pickup truck took the lives of two individuals, authorities reported. The Richfield incident occurred on Interstate 271 at approximately 5 p.m. Police suspect that excessive speed and distracted driving contributed to the crash.
