Car accident in Columbus results in fatality and personal injury

Last week, one Ohio woman was killed and another was injured in a serious crash. Police officers and emergency medical crews responded to the two-car accident near downtown Columbus early last week. The car accident took place on the northbound side of Interstate 71 near the overpass at the Interstate 670 interchange. The two-car crash resulted in both a personal injury and a fatality.

Members of the Columbus Police Department have confirmed that a 57-year-old female driver was headed north on Interstate 71 shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday, April 25, when she began to experience an undisclosed medical emergency. She stopped her vehicle in the flow of traffic and was struck by a 23-year-old female driver who was also headed north.

The 57-year-old driver passed away while en route to the hospital. She was under treatment by emergency medical technicians at the time of her death. There is currently no information available as to whether or not her death is contributed to her medical emergency or injuries sustained in the subsequent auto accident. The second driver sustained personal injuries and was rushed to the Ohio State University Medical Center where she was treated and reported to be in stable condition.

Police have confirmed that both of the accident victims are residents of Columbus. However, their physical addresses are being withheld at this time. Officials at the Columbus Police Department have launched an investigation into the accident. Reports indicate that, year-to-date, there have been 22 fatalities related to automobile accidents in Columbus.
