Man arrested in fatal hit-and-run crash in Ohio

A 51-year-old man with a history of DUI convictions was arrested by Union Township police following a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Feb. 21. The 51-year-old male victim was riding his bike at the time of the car accident. The suspect had been convicted for DUI on three other occasions between the years on 1996 and 2007. The suspect is currently being held in a local county Jail.

According to investigators, the accident happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Round Bottom Road, near Beechwood Road. The victim was riding his bike on Round Bottom when he was hit by the suspect's car. After the accident, the police began searching for a the driver of a bright yellow van, which was last seen going westbound away from the scene of the accident. The car was located in the 4500 block of Dameron Lane and the suspect was taken into custody.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and leaving the accident and was being held pending a bond hearing. The victim's family may want to consider filing a wrongful death suit against the suspect. Wrongful death occurs when one individual causes the death of another individual through an act of negligence or while in the act of committing an illegal act or violation.

If the family members believe the suspect is responsible for the victim's death, they may want to consult with a personal injury attorney. The attorney may be able to advise the family as to the viability of filing a lawsuit based on the evidence gathered by the attorney's office or from the police report. If the lawsuit is filed, the attorney might use the evidence to try and convince the jury of the suspect's liability in order to win a favorable judgement.
